Greetings from Chicago English Bulldog Rescue (CEBR FOR SHORT)! Don’t be fooled by our name, we cover a very large Midwest territory!
To determine if you qualify to adopt one of our adorable bullies view our Adoption Criteria and Adoption Area Map.
CEBR is a Illinois licensed shelter and a 501c3 charitable organization. What that means for adopters, surrendering families and shelters is that our bullies get the highest level of care and commitment; just like our sister BCARN rescue organizations. They spend their time with us in foster homes where they get daily love and attention.
We provide each bully with a high quality diet, the best veterinary care around (from a bulldog specialist!), and behavioral evaluations of the highest quality. Each of our rescued bullies typically cost CEBR more in care than the adoption fees we collect – on average $536 per bully.
BIG PERSONALITY WITH LOOKS TO BOOT! (Become a fan of Chicago English Bulldog Rescue on Facebook to read more!)
Hi, my name is Amos. I’m 5 years old and through a long and twisted path, have finally found my way into the hands of bully lovers. My most recent family tried really hard, but they just weren’t giving me much loving with the human baby around and the other dogs- it was just too much for them. They just didn’t have the time to train me and work with me to overcome some behavioral issues. I guess I’m just a stubborn bully! I’m your typically sized male bull, about 55 pounds, neutered and up-to-date on my vaccines. I will be microchipped before I go home!
I love to play with my toys including my leash (it’s a toy isn’t it?) since I think it’s a chew toy at times. I tend to get carried away with my manners when the toys are around thought and sometimes I run to an area and protect them and won’t let you take them away. This is my biggest behavioral hurdle and we need to work on it in a big way. My foster home is doing that know and we are hoping to make progress before I move to my forever home.
I’m friendly with other dogs, although, since I tend to protect my stuff from other bullies, I’m better with meeting up with canine friends on outings rather than having them as siblings in my household. I really don’t like anyone approaching me face-to-face or like anything squirted on my face, not even when bathing. I prefer to have humans approach me from behind when trying to caress me or put my leash on. You see, as a puppy my life was not so great as I had kids squirt water in my face and bully me around. And you know what, I think I would prefer a woman to be my new mommy. We’re still trying to figure that out, but I’m think that might be pretty cool. I can’t remember what happened in the past with men, but I remember it not being great. I’m ok with most of them, but I seem a bit calmer with a strong female handler.
First and foremost, I enjoy spending quality time in my home. I am somewhat food motivated and will work for a treat, if it’s the right treat! I listen well and pay attention to commands. I know “sit, stay, down and shake.’ Although I love to hang out on the furniture, sometimes I don’t like to give up my seat so I should probably NOT be allowed on it in my new home. Unlike other bullies, I LOVE to go on walks but you have to have water for me along the way if it’s warm out (but this time of year, no problem)! I love to just lie by the window where the sun comes in. I’m trying to work on a tan, but need your help to make sure I don’t overcook. I am potty trained and will let you know If I need to go outside. I tend to drool a tad bit. What’s not to love about me? I’m just cute all the way around!!!
My foster family is working with me on my issues of guarding my toys, having my face touched, and also taking over the leash and not giving it back. It’s a tough habit to break, but with the right new parent, I think I can lick it! CEBR will work with you to give you pointers, and they can recommend a great trainer too!
I’m accident free and learning my good manners slowly but surely. I’m eating well and sleeping well and happy as a clam! Sometimes, I get too excited and I jump, but in a playful way. Couple that with my toy guarding and a home with no kids is the place for me. I love to go up the stairs and can race you to the top. But when I make it there before you, a “Good Boy” would be nice. I would love a home that has a nice yard for me to run around in when it’s nice out. I tend to explore a lot.
We’ll talk soon!
Amos
NOTE FROM THE HUMANS
Amos’ adoption fee is $525. Our adoption criteria for Amos are as follows:
--CEBR Adoption Radius Only. NO EXCEPTIONS.
*No children in the home. If you have children visiting, commitment to keeping him separate is important.
*Someone who has experience with a strong-willed bulldog and is willing to be patient as he learns appropriate toy and leash behavior.
*An adopter with a strong commitment to training and consistent behavioral care
*No other dogs in home. Although he is ok with them, he is less stressed without this distraction.
We serve Chicago-proper and the surrounding suburbs, Illinois, Northwest Indiana, Southeastern Wisconsin including Milwaukee and now will accept intakes from Ohio and Missouri. Our adoption radius expansion to Ohio will be coming soon!
