Spanky was surrendered to the Rancho Cucamonga Shelter, and he was pulled by rescue. We don't know much about his life, other than someone owned him then gave him to the people that took him to shelter and not one of them took care of his double hip dysplasia as a pup that caused his knees to blow and his other issues. While in our care, Spanky had double knee surgery, and healed well. We initally thought that hip surgery would follow but he does not need it and is in no pain. Instead the vets have indicated that he needs to build up the hip muscles to keep his hips in place. While recovering from his knee surgery, Spanky's hair begain falling out. After months of tests and vet visits he was ultimately diagnosed with Cushing's Disease. His meds for this is 3/4 of a pill 2x a week. He also has a thyroid issue and for that takes 1 pill 2x a day. Spanky has been on his meds for a number of months now and has re-grown his hair and is looking terrific! Spanky is alpha male, ok with other dogs that are easy going submissive, he loves all the attention, is potty trained needs easy access to outside and has a wheelchair to help him get around if needed. He can walk slow, he still needs steady and moderate excercise this will help him rebuild his muscles. He will not be a dog to go on long walks with or hiking - but really enjoys rides in his stroller! Spanky needs a single story home and cannot do stairs. He does get head treamors now and then but a bit of honey and cheese and he is good as new... Spanky is loving and spunky and independant and looking for his forever home and family.

UPDATE: Spanky's walking is improving and he can get around the house slowly and goes potty outside on his own.
