Comments:
Greetings from Chicago English Bulldog Rescue (CEBR FOR SHORT)! Don’t be fooled by our name, we cover a very large Midwest territory!
To determine if you qualify to adopt one of our adorable bullies view our Adoption Criteria and Adoption Area Map.
CEBR is a Illinois licensed shelter and a 501c3 charitable organization. What that means for adopters, surrendering families and shelters is that our bullies get the highest level of care and commitment; just like our sister BCARN rescue organizations. They spend their time with us in foster homes where they get daily love and attention.
We provide each bully with a high quality diet, the best veterinary care around (from a bulldog specialist!), and behavioral evaluations of the highest quality. Each of our rescued bullies typically cost CEBR more in care than the adoption fees we collect – on average $536 per bully.
SASSY, YET LOVABLE AND SWEET TOO! (Become a fan of Chicago English Bulldog Rescue on Facebook to read more!)
Hello! My name is Maggie Mae! I am a sweet southern belle. I am five years old, a beautiful brindle color and weigh about 58 pounds. I dream of sitting on the couch and watching the days pass as I sleep blissfully and very content. I have a very lady like derriere that I love to swing to show how happy I am! I am a little picky about eating–I prefer some yogurt on my food and then I chow down. I also love my toys, especially my stuffed raccoon! I am spayed and up to date on my shots and microchipped too!
I came into CEBR through a series of events. I was raised as a puppymill girl and was crated outside and my only purpose was to give birth to puppies for money. I was purchased by a nice family who wanted to help me out and get me out of there. They gave me a great home the last 6 months but surrendered me to CEBR because I was guarding my toys and not getting along with my housemates (the doggy kind that is).
I also have two fairly common, but annoying, bully health issues. I have a condition called dry eye which went untreated for quiet some time. Basically dry eye is a condition in which my eyes don’t produce enough tears to keep my eyes lubricated and healthy. This caused an infection in my eye (with lots of green and gooey goop!) and lots of scarring every time my eyelids rubbed the surface of my eye. Because of this I will need daily eye drops to help me produce tears to keep my eyes lubricated and free of infection. Because of the years of trauma to my eyes, I have lost a little vision. I still see mind you, but things get a bit fuzzy. So I startle easily when you sneak up on me.
I also have really deep facial folds that make me extra cute but they need daily cleaning. My tail is an “inny” and has a deep pocket around it that also needs cleaning daily. The problem with this whole eye, wrinkle, booty routine is that I really HATE it! After years of those areas hurting me, I don’t trust that they are ever going to feel better so I don’t want you going near them! Heck, any proper lady doesn’t want someone touching her tail! I also don’t want those stinky drops near my face! I will try to snap and bite you if you come straight at me with eye drops. My foster family is working on that with me to come up with a work-around so that I can safely get the much needed drops, while also not putting my family through a fiasco every time it has to happen. I am learning that cleaning my eyes and tail doesn’t always equal pain!
Because of my sight issues, I also get a little scared going outside in the dark by myself. I would do best if you took me out on a leash at night. During the day I go out without any problems. I love taking strolls around the neighborhood. I walk nicely on the leash and can make it a good 20 minutes! A girl has to watch her figure so these daily walks are important to me.
I am looking for a home with older kids or no kids. I love to be the center of attention! I am not a complete diva though and can entertain myself at home while you are out. I usually just sleep away the day! I want someone who will play with me. I love tug of war and playing catch! And you know what? After all of the hulla-ba-look about me not getting along with other dogs…aw heck! I get along with them just fine!
I think most importantly, I need a patient and savvy new family who can handle my sassy ways when it comes to my eyes, wrinkles and tail and keep on top of my daily grooming needs. If you are looking for a beautiful girl to keep you warm at night and give you lots of love, then I am your lady!
Sincerely,
Maggie Mae
