Comments:
Greetings from Chicago English Bulldog Rescue (CEBR FOR SHORT)! Don’t be fooled by our name, we cover a very large Midwest territory!

To determine if you qualify to adopt one of our adorable bullies view our Adoption Criteria and Adoption Area Map.

CEBR is a Illinois licensed shelter and a 501c3 charitable organization. What that means for adopters, surrendering families and shelters is that our bullies get the highest level of care and commitment; just like our sister BCARN rescue organizations. They spend their time with us in foster homes where they get daily love and attention.

We provide each bully with a high quality diet, the best veterinary care around (from a bulldog specialist!), and behavioral evaluations of the highest quality. Each of our rescued bullies typically cost CEBR more in care than the adoption fees we collect – on average $536 per bully.

GOOFBALL WHO LOVES TO PLAY AND IS A LOVER LIKE NO OTHER! (Become a fan of Chicago English Bulldog Rescue on Facebook to read more!)

Hi There! My name is Shrek. I’m a 5 years young English Bully that came into the rescue as a stray about 5 hours south of Chicago. I had a few issues that initially made life a bit harder for me. The main thing was a cyst that had to be removed from my back, so I had some mean stitches, but being the tough guy that I am, I have handled it like a man, and have recovered nicely. All of my blood work and tests have come back great, and I am a trooper in the recovery department. Nothing left to worry about anymore in this department.

So why do they call me Shrek? Well, because I am a big ol’ OGRE. I’m a large boy, topping the scale at 80lbs, hoping with help from my foster family, to make it to a svelt 75lbs. I’m not really fat though, just a big muscular guy! I have a great waist that all the boys envy, and nice muscular legs and a beautiful strut.

Anyway, another reason I’m called Shrek… much like the movie character, I’m clever, I’m brave, I’m a loner in the beginning, and afraid of rejection. Best of all, I like myself and am comfy in my own skin, even if I have a partially shaved back end. Much like the movie character, I almost seemed afraid that no one was going to love me at first. But how couldn’t they with this adorable tongue that hangs out of my crooked teeth. I just didn’t know where I was or why I was no longer in my original home. See, I am a guy that likes to know I belong to someone, and that they belong to me.

Because of that fear that I may not be loved, I initially hold back, kind of independent, yet not aloof. I just go with the flow, which mom says is a good thing overall. Once I have realized that I am loveable, I come around and just want to be your laid back shadow.

You have kids? Cool. You don’t have kids? Cool. You have cats? Sounds good. You don’t have cats? Ok with me. Any other dogs? As long as they are nice, it’s fine with me. What I’m trying to say is that I am comfy doing whatever you want. I just want a walk or two, and to hang out with you while we’re doing our thing. I am as easy as a fall breeze on a Sunday afternoon. I only bark when I hear a noise outside, and that’s just to let the noise-maker know that I am here, and I am going to sound protective, ‘cause I am loyal to my family. I am curious, really to anything new, but take it all in stride.

Mom was thinking about different things to describe me and here’s what she had to say. Almost makes me blush….

If I were clothes, I would be your favorite old Levi’s jeans and a flannel shirt.

If I were a vehicle, I’d be your trusty pick up truck (but I only ride inside the cab).

If I were a food, I would be steak and a baked potatoes.

I’m the linebacker on your favorite football team.

I’m a Southern Gentleman, slow and steady, always ready with a smooch for the ladies, and a lean for my daddy.

I’m like football and apple pie. I’m a true flag waving kinda guy. A boy you can put your trust in. I don’t pottie in the house. I don’t chew anything.

I am a loyal guy. I’ll be your best friend if you will let me.

If you wanna see me get wild, give me my bully ball my mom said I could take home with me. I just shove it all around the yard until she makes me stop. When I am done, I curl up right next to you for a rest.

I don’t have any food aggression, animal or people aggression. I enjoy my 15 minute walks a couple of times a day. I need it to keep my weight down.

If I get on a couch I’m not supposed to, I will use all my weight to try to keep ya from putting me down, or I might even try to be a statue if I don’t want to walk, but that’s just the big bulldog in me. Of course, I always do what you ask. Just give me a good enough reason. Makes my foster mom realize what really matters….taking time to enjoy the music, living in the moment.

You can believe that if you can take care of me, I will do that and more for you. I’m a good ol’ boy….never meanin’ no harm….

Your boy,
Shrek
