Greetings from Chicago English Bulldog Rescue (CEBR FOR SHORT)! Don’t be fooled by our name, we cover a very large Midwest territory!
To determine if you qualify to adopt one of our adorable bullies view our Adoption Criteria and Adoption Area Map.
CEBR is a Illinois licensed shelter and a 501c3 charitable organization. What that means for adopters, surrendering families and shelters is that our bullies get the highest level of care and commitment; just like our sister BCARN rescue organizations. They spend their time with us in foster homes where they get daily love and attention.
We provide each bully with a high quality diet, the best veterinary care around (from a bulldog specialist!), and behavioral evaluations of the highest quality. Each of our rescued bullies typically cost CEBR more in care than the adoption fees we collect – on average $536 per bully.

Howdy folks. My name is Murphy and you are looking at the most handsome 12 week old boy this side of Texas. I don’t mean to sound boastful but, honestly, just look at my pictures. Have you ever seen such a cutie? I’m a 17lb. bundle of puppy love and it’s all for you!
I love to play and chew and eat and oh…did I mention chew? Snuggling on my foster mom or dad’s lap is right up there in my “top 10” list. But, I have to say, that my favorite thing of all is playing with my foster sister, Mimi. She is a real hoot. She is a 62lb. version of me. My foster dad calls me “mini Mimi.” I don’t appreciate that in the least bit, after all, I am a boy! I love exploring my new backyard and really love to stalk and surprise attack my foster sisters and brother. Unfortunately, they don’t like my surprises as much as I do. When I run, I have the cutest little bunny hop. I’m not winning any races but I’m having fun just the same. Now, if I could just tackle this “stair” thing…
Anyhow, I came to CEBR straight from a puppy mill. It was the day the pet stores come to buy the puppies from those big old commercial breeding places. They passed me right up saying I had a little “tinkle dribbling” problem. Well, I ask you…what puppy doesn’t? CEBR also noticed that I walked a little funny on my back legs. So, they took me to the vet to have things checked out. Gee whiz, sorry for the pun, turns out I actually have a disease called Spina Bifida. This means that some of my vertebrae are malformed. This will be a lifelong condition that will need to be monitored, but it seems at this point that my spina bifida is one of the less severe cases. I will be incontinent with both tinkles and poops for my entire life (and CEBR has found a few easy ways to manage this) and so far, my back legs are improving every day. You wouldn’t know from looking at my cute mug that I have spina bifida and the more I run and play, the stronger my leg muscles become – this is good for me because it helps offset my condition. My new forever home will need to continue to work with me so that I can grow big and strong. As of today, I walk just fine and hopefully it will stay that way!
My foster mom is working on my puppy manners. Just because I have Spina Bifida doesn’t mean that I can’t be trained to be a gentleman. Right now, I’m just enjoying being a puppy. I wake up every morning full of joy; barking, sniffing and wiggling my entire body, ready to start my day. My foster mom calls me her “chubby little angel”. She says I remind her of how great life can be. I can make her smile even when I’m not on my best behavior. It is hard to be in a bad mood when I’m around. I’m so full of life and I can’t wait to share mine with someone special.
I’m going to need a very special home; a home that is willing to deal with my urinary and fecal incontinence. Because of my disease, I will need a home where someone is around most of the day. Limited stairs would probably be a good idea as well. I would love a home that has another dog that will play with me. I think having a yard would be awesome too!
Well, it’s time for me to say goodbye. I need to go chew on my foster dad’s shoes. They make the best chew toys!
Love,
Murphy
